First of all, I want to express my most sincerest of sympathies to everyone affected by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irma. I hope that you have very little, if any, damage and that your power is restored soon.
Second of all, we evacuated our home and headed inland about 70 miles to an uncle's house in Baxley, Georgia. We received a lot of wind and rain. Several trees were felled and a lot of limbs were blown out of the other trees.
Finally, I'm sitting in a hospital room in Alma, Georgia, next to my mother who's lying in the bed. The reason for this is because early Monday morning my mother decided to take a tumble and injure herself. She managed to bruise her hip badly, fractured her scapula, tore her scalp bad enough to need seven staples, has a bruise on her brain, and a number of scrapes on her cheek. Despite all these injuries, she's in good spirits, lucid and in relatively good health. I'm hoping that she'll be released from the hospital soon. I guess I'll know soon enough.

Well, my mother's still in the hospital in Alma, GA. She'll be there for another two weeks as she goes through rehab.
I returned from Baxley, GA, this past Thursday and found that we still didn't have any power but I had to go to work Friday. (I couldn't afford to take any more time off.) It wasn't easy sleeping with no power, no fan to keep me cool and no way to cook something to eat. We finally got power back at about 7:45 pm Friday. Ever since I returned my Dixie has not wanted me out of her sight but I guess she understands that I just have to leave because when I returned from work Friday and Saturday, she was lying on my bed waiting for me to return.
When I returned home, I walked through my yard and saw a lot of large and medium sized limbs all over the front yard. I walked around the yard and saw that there weren't any limbs near our pond but the pond is full almost to overflowing. I didn't see it until yesterday but a tree near the pond was blown over but not broken. It's low enough that I'm going to have to break out my chainsaw and cut it up, along with several limbs too big for me to pull to the side of the road. I'll post some photos to show how lucky we were later. The closest to any damage to our home we had was a rather large pecan limb is lying on the roof but didn't do any damage, except the facia below the roof was cracked there.
I hope that everyone I know that was affected by Irma got off as well as we did.
I should have posted these to my journal sooner but I've been rather busy between work and worrying about my mother's well-being. I hope that everyone affected by Irma made it through with little or no problems.

Surgery Update
I just wanted to let everyone know that my hand/finger surgery went well. they put a nerve blocker in my arm to prevent any pain. I didn't know that it would completely block my usage of my left hand for over 12 hours. My arm and hand were totally useless to me until around 1:00 am the next morning. I went to see the orthopoedist the next day and he removed the splint and bandage and I got to see a bit of my hand and the sutures. Right now, I've got a ridge of skin from just below the finger up the finger for about 2 or 3 inches. The doctor told me to flex my hand as iften as possible to make sure my finger works properly. It hurts a bit when I do that but I know it's for the best. I have to wear a splint at night and I will for a while but, hopefully, in a couple of weeks, I'll be able to type properly again. I got a pain medication prescription and was told to take it every 4-6 hours for pain but, so far, I've only needed it at night so I can sleep. In fact
Today's Surgery (Basal Squamous Cell Cancer)
I had told everyone that I had two surgeries scheduled for this month. Well, today I had my first. It was a very simple surgery. A Basal Squamous Cell Cancer was removed from my cheek. I can't believe how many injections of Xylocaine I had to endure. It felt like a dozen but, that was the worst part of it. The removal was simple and I had to wait about 30 minutes before I heard that they had gotten all of it. Then, I had to have the opening sutured shut. I don't know how many sutures they used but it felt like at least 6. The good thing is that Basal Squamous Cell Cancer is non-malignant so it was more of an unsightly thing that needed to be removed. Everything went well so I'll be all right from this surgery as soon as they remove the sutures in a couple of weeks. My next journal entry should be on Wednesday after the surgery to correct the Dupuytrin's Contracture in my left hand. I'll let y'all know how it goes as soon as I feel up to writing about it. (That's
Update
As most of you already know, I don't make journals very often, and when I do, I do it to let you know what's going on in my life. Well, it's time for another "What's Going On In My Life" journal. A couple of weeks ago, I had to have another crown put on one of my teeth. Last Saturday morning, I was eating breakfast and, lo and behold, the crown decided it didn't like my tooth any more and filed for divorce. So, this afternoon, I had to return to the dentist to see if he could make the crown reconcile with my tooth. I guess I'll know in a few weeks. Back in 2011, I went to our local orthopaedist about a problem in my left hand. He said I had Dupuytren's Contracture (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases.....s/syc-20371943) but, it wasn't bad enough to do anything about at that time. Today, I returned and he said, "Yep. It's time to correct it. I can either have injections (which have about a 35% failure rate) or I can opt for surgery (which has about a 1-5% failure
Chapter 63 Update
A few days after I posted Chapter 63, I realized I hadn't addressed a couple of things I alluded to in Chapter 62. I made the necessary corrections and, if you've already read this chapter, you might want to re-read it. The changes weren't earth-shattering and the chapter could have been left as is but, I hated to think I had implied something(s) would happen and then not have them happen.
